Walking the talk: a Christian in the workplace
August 30, 2025 · 3 minute read
Faith at work is not a speech in the break room. It is truth, patience, and a clean no.
Most of a Christian life is spent where nobody is singing: a shift, a meeting, a classroom, a counter. The question is not whether you can quote a verse under pressure. It is whether the people closest to your work would recognize the fruit.
Walking the talk looks ordinary. Tell the truth when a small lie would be easier. Refuse cruelty, including the kind that gets laughs. Do the work as unto the Lord, not as a performance for whoever signs the paycheck. Colossians says to do it heartily. Heartily is not frantic. It is whole.
There is a second obedience, and it is not weakness: you do not owe a toxic room your peace. Boundaries can be holy. Leaving can be holy. Staying and telling the truth can be holy. Wisdom asks which one serves Christ and protects the person He made you to be. Spiritual warfare is not only private. Sometimes the dart is a pattern of humiliation, and the shield is a clear refusal.
If you need a people to practice this with, that is what the houses are for. Bring the real week. We will open the Bible next to it.
